Thanks for the reminder on the Acts passage about works worthy of penance. But immediately I think of a counterargument (Brant Pitre calls me the European critical spirit:) - that passage is about conversion, i.e. one needs to lead a good Christian life after converting. But penance as such in Catholic theology refers to getting rid of temporal punishments that remain after confession, but not after baptism. This seems to me to be the greatest challenge to the Catholic Paul. It seems totally foreign to Paul's vision that after baptism venial sins or sacramentally pardoned mortal sins start piling up temporal punishments for us to be satisfied either in this life with works of penance or in Purgatory. But perhaps I should listen to the next podcast for some light! Will do just that right now.

Just finished listening to my first podcast - this was very helpful. I plan to listen again with my bible open... there were an awful lot of references in there!
